A garment worker was gang-raped in Gazipur and four people were arrested in rape cases in three other districts in the last two days.
Yesterday, a Dhaka court placed four arrestees on three-day remand each over the rape of a 13-year-old girl in the capital’s Pallabi area on Sunday.
Police said the 25-year-old RMG worker lives at a rented home in Chakpara area of Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila. She works at a garment factory in the same area.
Victim’s neighbour Ashraful Alam, 22, and one of his associates, Jahangir Alam, 33, had been stalking her for long.
Around 12:30am yesterday, Ashraful entered the victim’s home through a ventilator in a washroom. Then he opened a door of the house for Jahangir to step in.
The two raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter. The alleged rapists fled the scene around 3:30am, said police.
In the morning, the victim informed the landlord and some locals about the incident. Locals later caught Ashraful and handed him to police.
A case was filed with Sreepur Police Station against the duo.
In Bagerhat, police early on Sunday picked up a rickshaw van puller over the gang-rape of a female NGO worker in Zaria Mite Kumra area of Fakirhat upazila.
The arrestee is Mamun, 27, a resident of the same area.
Police said the victim and a male student used to live in separate flats of a building.
Around 1:30am on Sunday, Mamun and three others forcibly entered the victim’s room and started accusing her of having a physical relationship with the male student.
At one stage, they raped the victim and filmed the incident, said police.
The three other alleged rapists — Firoz, 28, Musa, 26, and another rickshaw van puller Raju, 29, — are from the same area.
In Savar, police on Sunday night arrested a youth and his elder sister over the rape of a 20-year-old girl.
The arrestees are Mamun, 30, and his sister Anjuara Begum, 35.
Police said the victim went to visit her sister in Narshinghpur area of Ashulia from Netrakona a few day ago.
On October 7, the victim got introduced to Anjuara. Lured by the promise of a good job, the girl went to Anjuara’s home in Ashulia’s Polashbari area.
At one stage, Anjuara offered the victim to marry Mamun. The girl accepted the proposal and agreed to stay at her home.
On the night of October 8, Mamun with the help of Anjuara forcibly entered the victim’s room and raped her.
The victim on Sunday filed a complaint with the police.
In Chattogram, police arrested a youth from his rented home in Chowmuhoni area of the port city yesterday on charges of raping a schoolgirl.
The arrestee is Riaz, 22, a student of Islamia Degree College in the city.
The victim and the arrestee are neighbours and they knew each other.
The schoolgirl’s family alleged that Riaz took the 10th grader to his friend’s home in Sarkar Pukurpar area and raped her there on September 16.
Informed about the incident by the victim, her parents later filed a complaint with the police.
In Dhaka, the four arrestees placed on remand yesterday are Md Juwel, 22, Md Alamin, 23, Md Ridhoy, 24, and Abdur Rahman Mintu, 26.
Police said the 13-year-old girl came to visit her parents in the capital’s Pallabi area from Noakhali on Saturday.
The arrestees took the victim to a home in the same area in the evening when she went out of home.
Waking up on Sunday morning, the victim realised that she was raped. She later informed law enforcers about the incident, said police.
The victim was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday.
